Join us for an exploration of power and energy… a celebration of culture and creativity.
To celebrate Earth Day, Hagley Museum & Library, together with Power Up Gambia, present "Power Up at Hagley”, a festival of educational and entertaining family activities.
Cool Exhibits on Renewable Energies : Get the latest on alternative forms of energy, green projects, and school displays. Meet with experts on biofuels; hydrogen fuel cells; photovoltaics; geothermal, wind & biomass technologies; composting and more. Visit Hagley’s exhibits on the history of solar & steam energy.
Cutting Edge Vehicles : Check out vehicles & hybrids that run on steam, hydrogen fuel cell, electricity, and more. Ride the cool UD Fuel Cell Bus or fun Mountain Wagon!
Talks & Presentations at the Soda House & Power Plant: Join us for a series of presentations throughout the day by notable industry leaders, government experts & academia. Watch mini movies put together by schools. Meet Kathryn Cunningham, Founder of Power Up Gambia, as she shares her vision to bring solar power to a Gambian hospital.
Art & Africa : Paintings by Mireille Caloghiris; African Craft; Jewelry & Art for sale; pen pal & art projects from local schools.
African Music & Dance : Dance, drum & music performances throughout the day by local performers & students.
Food : Solar Oven; Solar-Powered & Steam-Powered Popcorn Poppers; African-inspired food and more!
Don’t miss the Climate Change Exchange. Meet a panel of industry experts, including two IPCC Nobel Peace Prize Laureates, who will share their thoughts and ideas on global warming. The Soda House, 3 pm.
