Renewable Energy Harnessing Energy From The Sun for a Better Tomorrow* Researchers from the University of Delaware Solar Power Program

Organized by Professor Fouad Kiamilev

Field Trip & Presentation Conservation and energy generation are one of the most critical problems facing today's electrical engineers. At the University of Delaware researchers are working on a novel solar cell technology that will achieve 50% energy conversion efficiency (vs 10% efficiency of today's typical solar cells). Step into the world of Solar Energy in the Electrical Engineering Department at the University of Delaware and learn more about solar cells – how they are produced, how they are used and how we can evaluate their performance. Join the energy experts for the morning and be inspired by the vast potential of solar power.

This visit is limited to 60 participants. Further visits will be organized if Power Up Gambia receives enough response & interest from schools.
Schools are responsible for transporting their own students to the location.
University of Delaware offers one of the nation's broadest research programs in solar energy. It is home to the Solar Power Program in the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering & the Institute of Energy Conversion, led by Christiana Honsberg & Allen Barnett. Prof Honsberg is also developing one of the nation's most complete courses of study for solar power systems, which is partially sponsored by the National Science Foundation's IGERT program.
