Get Your School Involved

Whether you're a student or a teacher, young or old, get your school involved! Here are some of our ideas to get started. If you have something else in mind, make sure to send us pictures from your event. We'll recognize you on our website.

Bake Sale

Hold a bake sale after school, at a sports event, or during a school play.

Color Day/ Dress down/ Tag day

If your school has a uniform, host a color day where you can pay a dollar to wear regular clothes instead of your uniform to school for the day.

Cultural Night

Have a cultural night where students bring in dishes from their heritage and enjoy a meal together. You can charge a fee for the dinner and also include a raffle with the proceeds going to Power Up Gambia.

Donate Birthday Money to Power Up Gambia

Celebrate another year of your life by helping to save lives in The Gambia. Instead of asking for presents this year, you can celebrate your birthday by asking family members and friends to donate the dollar amount for the number of years that you are turning.

Lights Out for Power Up Gambia

Keep all the lights off for one school day. Reflect on the value of basic necessities such as light and what daily life is like without electricity.

Pennies for Power

Practice math skills while having a friendly competition between classes by seeing which class can collect the most pennies in a jar to donate to Power Up Gambia. The catch: a class can put nickels, dimes, and quarters in the collection jar of another class, and this amount will be subtracted from the final count.

Run/Walk

Host a run or walk for Power Up Gambia at your school (around the track or the fields). Set a registration fee, or have runners/walkers collect pledges.

Start a Power Up Gambia Club at Your School

Read about what you can do to start your own chapter here.

Student-Faculty Sports Match

Host a sports match such as basketball of students versus teachers. Charge admission, and donate the proceeds to Power Up Gambia.

Talent Show

Host a talent show in your school auditorium, and have both students and teachers perform. Charge an admission fee.

Ultimate Frisbee Tournament

Host an ultimate Frisbee tournament at your school, and have participants donate to participate.

Courtney's Pencil sale - Oxford Area High School, PA

If you are a high school teacher, and you are tired of giving out pencils to your forgetful students, here is an idea: Get pencils in bulk during the back-to-school sale at Staples. You can get them for free, or really cheap if youÕre a teacher! Then, sell them to your students for $0.10 when they forget their own. Maybe that will remind them. Donate the money you collect to Power Up Gambia!

Get creative! Whatever you choose to do, make sure to send us your pictures and impressions from your event - We'll put you up on our website!
